CAIRO – 31 October 2018: Former Barcelona captain, Xavi Hernandez, believes that his former teammate in Barcelona, Lionel Messi, can play football until he gets 40 describing him as incomparable.

"Sometimes I think that he can play until he is 38, 39 or 40. He needs very little to be able to do that, what do you lose as you get older? Your pace? Well he won't lose his mental speed. Messi is incomparable." Xavi told Radio Catalunya on Wednesday.

Xavi was in Barcelona when Messi took his first steps to the first team in 2004 and since then he established himself as one of the best players in football history.

Xavi formed a partnership with Messi and Andres Iniesta at Barcelona midfield that led the Catalan Club to achieve many titles during their time together including four Champions League titles.

Xavi added "I think that he would be able to play wherever he wants on the park,"

Messi started his career as a winger before moving to the false striker position under Pep Guardiola and he is playing as a playmaker under their current manager, Ernesto Valverde.

Xavi continued "He already drifts into the center of the field and is effective there, as he is at defending too because he is very strong mentally."
