Egypt Futsal Youth team loses to Russia at Olympics

CAIRO – 16 October 2018: Egypt Futsal Youth Team’s amazing run at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics came to an end when they lost 3-1 to Russia at the semi-finals.

Egypt secured qualification to the semi-finals as the group leaders with three victories over Panama, Iraq and Slovakia and a draw at the opening game against the host nation, Argentina.

The Egyptian team conceeded two early goals from Igor Cherniavskii and Maxim Okulov but Egyptian hopes at the game were revived when Belal el-Sayed scored the first goal for Egypt.

Russia scored the third goal minutes before half time by Danil Karpiuk and they kept their lead until the end of the game.



At the other semi-final, Brazil defeated their arch rivals, Argentina, 3-2 in front of their fans to secure their place at the final.



Egypt will battle Argentina for the Bronze medal game, while the Russians will face Brazil at the final.

Russia hopes for a better result against Brazil as the Brazilian team defeated Russia at the group stage 6-1.
