CAIRO – 15 October 2018: Al-Ahly handball team arrived on Monday morning in Morocco to begin their final preparations for the African Handball Champions League competition in Ivory Coast.

The competition draw put Al-Ahly in Group A alongside Mali’s USFAS Bamako, Cameroon’s FAB Yaoundé, Gabon’s phoenix and the host team Red Star from Ivory Coast.

Al-Ahly signed the national team winger, Mohamed Aboul Fotouh, known as Hammasa, on loan from Smouha to support the team at the tournament.

“Our goal, as usual, is to achieve the title. This competition is important for our fans and we will do everything we can to win it.” The delegation head and former Al-Ahly handball captain, Gohar Nabil, told Al-Ahly official website on Monday, Oct. 15.

Al-Ahly is set to arrive in Ivory Coast on Thursday, Oct. 18 to prepare for the opening game of the competition on Friday, Oct. 19 against Cameroon’s FAB Yaoundé.

Nabil added “We are expecting a tough tournament but we have many experienced players and I trust their ability to win the title.”

Al-Ahly arch rivals, Zamalek, participate in the competition in Group B and both Egyptian teams are the main contenders for the title.
