CAIRO – 8 October 2018: Al-Ahly French manager, Patrica Carteron, trusts his team’s ability to bounce back after their 4-3 loss to Al-Ittihad on Sunday night at the Egyptian Premier League.
“It was a difficult night for us. The players did everything they can and they created many chances to equalize the score but we were unlucky,” Carteron told Al-Ahly official website after the game.

Al-Ittihad opened the score by an own goal from Al-Ahly defender, Ayman Ashraf, after 20 minutes from the start.

Al-Ahly striker, Marwan Mohsen, received an amazing pass from Salif Coulibaly that allowed him to equalize the score for his team.

Al-Ahly missed their captain Ahmed Fathy in the game due to injury and he was replaced by Mohamed Hany.

“Losing a veteran player like Fathy had a major effect on the team.” Carteron added.

Al-Ittihad regained their lead when Khaled Kamar scored after a wonderful play from his Ivorian teammate, Razack Cissé, to end the first half 2-1.

In the second half, Al-Ittihad extended their lead by Didier Koré through a penalty to make the score 3-1 but Walid Soliman scored the second goal for Al-Ahly by a header to keep Al-Ahly fans’ hopes alive.

Al-Ahly had many chances to equalize but Al-Ittihad defense broke all their attempts.

Mohamed al-Alfy made the score 4-2 for Al-Ittihad two minutes before the final whistle and Mohamed Sherif scored Al-Ahly's third goal seconds before the final whistle to end the game 4-3 for Al-Ittihad.

Carteron continued, “We will work with the players to solve our defensive mistakes.”

Al-Ahly lost their first game in the league this season to stay at the ninth position with 11 points, while Al-Ittihad reached the sixth position with 14 points.
