Salah, Koka and Ghazal feature in Aguirre's list for 2019 AFCON qualifications

CAIRO – 23 August 2018: Mexican coach Javier Aguirre announced the list of the Egyptian players abroad that will face Niger next September in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifications.

The list witnessed the returning of Aly Ghazal, Canadian Vancouver Whitecaps FC defender, Olympiacos FC striker, Ahmed Hassan ‘Koka’ and Emirati Al-Ain’s midfielder, Hussein Al-Shahat.

On the other hand, Saudi Al Ahly’s Abdullah el-Said and Mohamed Abdel Shafy were absent as they suffer injuries.

Aguirre is set to announce the full list on August 31 after the completion of the Egyptian league games.

The Mexican manager succeeded the Argentinean Hector Cuper in the position after the latter’s failure to impress at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where the national team lost their three group stage games to Uruguay, Russia and Saudi Arabia.

Egypt faces Niger on September 8 in the second round of the 2019 AFCON qualifications. Egypt lost its first game against Tunisia 0-1 at Rades.

The list included 13 players:
(GK) Saudi Al Wehda’s Mohamed Awad

(DEF) West Bromwich Albion’s Ahmed Hegazy, Orlando City’s Amr Tarek, Aston Villa’s Ahmed Al Mohammady.

(MID) Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny, Wigan Athletic’s Sam Morsy, Vancouver Whitecaps’ Aly Ghazal, Huddersfield Town’s Ramadan Sobhy, Kasimpasa’s Trezeguet, Paok’s Amr Warda, Al Ain’s Hussein Al Shahat

(ATT) Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Olympiacos’ Ahmed Hassan Koka
