CAIRO – 30 July 2018: The Egyptian Football Association is still searching for a new national team manager after they decided not to renew Hector Cuper’s contract.

“We are searching for a manager to work with the national team till 2022. We will name the new manager on Wednesday after discussions with the committee responsible for negotiations,” federation President, Hany Abo Rida, told press.

The four candidates for the position are Vahid Halilhodžić, Jorge Luis Pinto, Quique Sánchez Flores and Javier Aguirre.

Mexican manager, Javier Aguirre’s agent is set to arrive in Cairo on Monday to negotiate with the Egyptian Football Association. The Mexican is one of the main contenders to be the next national team manager.

“We should consider the financial side of the federation beside the manager’s personality, experiences and tactics,” Abo Rida added.

The Egyptian Football Association decided to put an end to national team manager, Cuper’s era after the poor performance of the team at the World Cup.

Egypt had a disastrous run at the competition, losing their three games at the group stage.

Egypt started their participation against Uruguay where they lost 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Uruguayan defender, José Giménez.

Egypt also lost the second game 3-1 to the host nation, Russia, with Mohamed Salah scoring Egypt’s only goal at the game.

Egypt lost 2-1 at the Arab derby against Saudi Arabia despite leading the score by a goal from Mohamed Salah.
