CAIRO – 19 July 2018: Al-Ahly defeated Botswana’s Township Rollers 3-0 on Tuesday night at the third round of the group stage at CAF Champions League.

Al-Ahly’s victory was a great step towards reaching the next round at the competition after a frustrating start at the group stage.

Al-Ahly won their first official game under their new manager, Patrice Carteron, who succeeded the sacked, Hossam el-Badry.

Carteron followed the same tactics of Badry using 4-2-3-1 formation with Walid Azarro leading the attacking line.

Azarro opened the score after 36 minutes and Ali Maaloul doubled the score 15 minutes before the final whistle. Eslam Mohareb added the third goal four minutes later to achieve their first victory at the group stage.

“Champions League title is a priority for the club to reach FIFA Club World Cup. The players had a great game against a tough opponent and we promise the fans better results in the coming games,” Al-Ahly assistant manager, Mohamed Youssef, told press after the game.

Al-Ahly moved up to the second position in the group with four points, three points behind the leaders, Esperence.
