CAIRO – 12 July 2018: Barcelona announced on Thursday that French defender, Clement Lenglet, joined the club from Sevilla. Barcelona paid the player’s release clause as Sevilla refused to negotiate with the Catalan club.

The French defender will be a Barcelona player for the next five seasons until June 30, 2023, with a buyout clause valued at €300 million. Langlet is the 23rd French player to wear Barcelona jersey.

Lenglet, born in Beauvais, France, started his career at Nancy when he was 15 and he got promoted through the club rankings till he joined the first team when he was 18.

After stunning three and half years with Nancy, the defender moved to Spain in winter 2017 to play for Sevilla.

“Lenglet, who is left-footed, stands out for his good touch and his combination of strength, intelligence, and, above all, ball skills. This last quality will surely help him on team like Barça,” Barcelona statement said.

Langlet will challenge Gerard Piqué, Samuel Umtiti, Thomas Vermaelen and Yerri Mina for a starting position at the defense.

Langlet is Barcelona’s second signing this summer after Brazilian midfielder, Arthur Melo.

The French will play his first official game as a Barca player against his former club, Sevilla, at the Spanish Super Cup on August 12 in Tangier, Morocco.
