CAIRO – 12 July 2018: Egypt is planning to bid to host the 2030 World Cup and the 2032 Olympic Games, Ashraf Sobhy, Egypt’s minister of youth and sports highlighted on Tuesday during a speech tackling the ministry’s plan for the upcoming period.

“Egypt is planning to host global major sporting events, including the 2030 World Cup and the 2032 Olympic Games,” the minister said.

“Our goal is to host the 2030 World Cup in Egypt and we will work on that in the upcoming period.”

The 2030 World Cup will be a significant event, as it marks the centennial anniversary of the major football event. There have been three other bids for hosting the cup, submitted by England, Argentina and Uruguay jointly and a co-bid from Tunisia and Morocco.

The only African country to have hosted the World Cup is South Africa in 2010, after beating Egypt and Morocco for the hosting bids.

As for the Olympic Games, the major sporting event has never been held in an African country. Egypt is aiming to be the first African country to host it.
