CAIRO – 14 June 2018: Egypt captain, Essam el Hadary attended Egypt’s first press conference at the 2018 World Cup alongside Pharaohs’ manager, Hector Cuper.

Hadary comforted Egyptian fans about the team's preparations for the first game against Uruguay.

“The players are ready for the competition. We have top players running in Europe and whoever plays will do his best,” Hadary told press.

The goalkeeper turned 45 in January and he will be the oldest player ever to participate in the tournament if he plays in the World Cup.

“I would be the happiest man on earth if I start the game tomorrow. I have worked very hard in the last 25 years to play in the World Cup and finally I am here,” Hadary added.

Hadary played five of Egypt’s six games at the World Cup qualifiers and he conceded 3 goals.

Egypt will face Uruguay on Friday at 2 p.m. (CLT) at their first game at the World Cup.

The World Cup draw put Egypt in Group A alongside Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and the host nation, Russia.

Egypt will appear at the World Cup for the third time in history and the first time since 1990.
