CAIRO – 6 June 2018: The UEFA announced on Tuesday that Gianluigi Buffon will be suspended for three European matches, after receiving a red card in the Champions League game against Real Madrid, in the second leg game of the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Buffon, who announced earlier leaving Juventus at the end of the season, received a red card in Real Madrid’s game, after he objected verbally to the referee’s decision of giving Madrid a questionable penalty kick. Some media reports said that Bufon might be suspended because he hit the referee after the penalty decision, meanwhile the videos of the game showed that Douglas Costa was the one who hit the referee.

The confrontation, which witnessed exciting events, ended with Real Madrid qualifying to the semi-finals of the CL, despite their 3-1 loss in the second leg match, as the outcome of the two games is a 3-4 win for Madrid.

Buffon, who is close to joining Paris Saint-Germain, will miss the first three games with his new team in the Champions League.
