CAIRO – 30 May 2018: Egyptian Football Federation President, Hany Abo Rida, revealed on Wednesday that Mohamed Salah would miss the game against Uruguay at World Cup opening, on June 15.

“Salah would not be fit for the Uruguay clash. However, we still have hope. He has the desire to recover and to support the national team at the World Cup.” Abo Rida admitted on Wednesday.

Salah suffered a shoulder injury during the Champions League Final against Real Madrid after a tangle with Sergio Ramos. He left the game after 30 minutes and followed his team 3-1 loss from the dressing room.

Abo Rida added “We are following his injury updates with Liverpool medical staff to assure that he is ready for the World Cup.”

Scoring five out of Egypt’s seven goals at the qualifiers, Salah played a great role in Egypt campaign to reach the World Cup and to end 28 years of absence as Egypt last appeared in 1990 World Cup in Italy.

Egypt plays in Group A at the World Cup alongside Saudi Arabia, Uruguay and the host nation, Russia.

Egypt opens their participation at the competition against Uruguay on June 15.
