CAIRO – 30 May 2018: Liverpool physiotherapist, Rubén Pons, revealed on Tuesday that he expected the worst when Liverpool Egyptian player, Mohamed Salah, suffered an injury during the Champions League Final.

“We knew it was serious when he fell on the pitch as he never complains and we feared the worst,” Pons told Marca.

Salah left the Champions League final against Real Madrid after 30 minutes as he suffered an injury after he was tackled by Madrid’s captain, Sergio Ramos.

Liverpool had to play the next hour without their biggest star and they lost the game 3-1.

Pons added, “We were in the field until the break. I was devastated but I tried to transmit calmness; I told him that there was nothing that could be done and that he should not worry too much. It was time to look for solutions and not to regret.”

Pons travelled to Spain on Monday with Salah to start the treatment process ahead of Egypt's participation at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Asked about Salah’s ability to play in the World Cup, Pons said, “Once we knew what was there, we planned the treatment. He is going to mark the recovery time; it will be from three to four weeks but we are going to try to reduce those deadlines, that’s the big goal.”
