CAIRO – 16 May 2018: Smouha defeated El-Gaish 32-31 on Tuesday in the Egyptian Handball Cup final in Suez.

El-Gaish players were confident before the game after defeating Zamalek and Al-Ahly in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, respectively, while Smouha players were searching for their first title in the history of the competition.

El-Gaish dominated the game since the first moment and managed to end the first half leading 16-13.

Smouha returned in the game in the second half and managed to equalize the score seconds before the final whistle, ending the regular time 30-30; the game went to two overtimes.

After a goalless draw in the first overtime, Smouha scored two goals in the second overtime, while El-Gaish scored only one goal, granting Smouha the title.

Smouha achieved their first title in history and qualified to the African Handball Cup Winners' Cup.

On the other hand, Al-Ahly defeated Port Said 33-23 to achieve the bronze medal.
