CAIRO – 12 May 2018: The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) rejected the rumors about Alassyouty qualifying to the Egyptian Cup final to face Zamalek in case Smouha officially withdraws.

Smouha faced Alassyouty last Tuesday in the Egyptian Cup semi-final and managed to reach the final after beating Alassyouty 4-3 in the penalty kick shootout, after the two teams tied 1-1 in the game’s regular time.

Farag Amer, Smouha president, threatened to withdraw from the Egyptian Cup final after the EFA refused to assign foreign referees for the final against Zamalek.

Amer Hussein, head of the EFA’s Competitions Committee, said in remarks on a TV show, “In case of the withdrawal of Smouha, Alassyouty will not play in the final, and Zamalek will be named the champion of the Egyptian Cup.”

Hussein also assured that Smouha will play the final and that the crisis will end within hours, declaring, “The penalty of withdrawal from the Egyptian Cup is a financial penalty with the prevention of participation in the Egyptian Cup next season.”
