CAIRO – 11 May 2018: Barcelona announced on Thursday that they will face South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns on May 16 at Fest National Bank Stadium in Johannesburg at Mandela Centenary Cup.

“FC Barcelona has always professed its admiration for Nelson Mandela, one of the greatest figures of the 20th century,” Barcelonas' statement said.

Mandela Centenary Cup is one of the events that celebrate the life of South African former President, Mandela.

Barcelona statement added, “Mandela represented the struggle for freedom and equality in the country, and played a huge role in unifying the racially divided society. It is precisely this kind of spirit with which FC Barcelona has always been identified.”

Barcelona faced Mamelodi Sundowns in 2007 in Pretoria at a friendly game that ended 2-1 for the Spanish team. Santi Ezquerro and Marc Crosas scored Barcelona's goals.

The game will be a great opportunity for Andres Iniesta to return to the stadium that hosted the 2010 World Cup Final when Iniesta led Spain to achieve their only World Cup title, defeating Netherlands 1-0 with Iniesta scoring the only goal in the game.
