Ajax manager happy to participate at Ghaly's tribute match

CAIRO - 10 May 2018: Ajax Amsterdam are set to face Al-Ahly on Friday at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in UAE at Hossam Ghaly’s tribute match.

“We are so happy to participate at Ghaly’s last game as a football player. He has been a great player since his time with Feyenoord,” Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag, told press on Thursday.

Ghaly wore Ajax rivals, Feyenoord’s jersey between 2003 and 2006 before leaving the club to join Tottenham Hotspur in England.

“I wish him the best in his career after retirement,” added Erik ten Hag.

Ghaly announced his retirement on April 23 to put an end to his career as a football player.

The midfielder joined Al-Ahly at the age of 15 from Biyala, Kafr el-Sheikh and got promoted through the club rankings until he joined the first team at 19.

Ghaly established himself as one of the best midfielders in the history of the club and he also had many spells abroad. He represented Feyenoord, Tottenham Hotspur, Derby County, Al Nassr and Lierse.
