CAIRO – 25 April 2018: Despite achieving a comfortable 5-2 victory over Roma on Tuesday night in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp feels sad after the game for the team’s midfielder, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who received a serious injury.
“To be honest, the biggest blow for the mood in the dressing room is the injury of Oxlade-Chamberlain,” Klopp told press after the game.
The midfielder was carried off the field after 20 minutes from the start and was replaced by Georginio Wijnaldum after a tackle against Roma’s left back, Aleksandar Kolarov.
Klopp added, “If we can say that already before the scan, that’s never good news, so that means for us it’s a massive blow, of course. That's the reason I'm not flying mood-wise. We lost a fantastic player tonight.”
Chamberlain joined Liverpool last summer from Arsenal and since then has established himself as a key player on the team; Liverpool will miss him for the remainder of the season.
Roma will host Liverpool on Wednesday, May 2 in the second leg, and the Italian team hopes to repeat their comeback over Barcelona in the quarter-finals to reach the final.
