CAIRO – 18 April 2018: Gomhoriat Shebin defeated Tersana 1-0 in Group B of the Egypt’s second division on Wednesday afternoon at Ittihad El Shorta Stadium in Cairo’s Abbassia district.

This victory granted Nogoom El-Mostakbal their first promotion to the Egyptian League first division, as they defeated Suez 1-0 at home in 6th of October City.

Tersana entered the game leading the group with 57 points, one point ahead of Nogoom El-Mostakbal, and they needed to achieve victory to seal promotion to the first division after nine years of absence.

Tersana’s mission was difficult, as their opponent, Gomhoriat Shebin, needed the victory to secure their stay in the second division, while El-Mostakbal’s opponents, Suez, already secured their position in the second division before the game.

On the other hand, El-Mostakbal needed to win their game and wait the other game’s result to know their fate.

In Abbasia, Tersana players had a great start and had a chance to open the score in the first minute, but their striker was tackled by Shebin’s defender, who received a red card after the tackle.

After the red card, Tersana players had many chances, but their strikers failed to open the score, ending the first half with a goalless draw.

In 6th of October City, El-Mostakbal striker Mohab Yasser scored a goal seconds before the half time to shift all the eyes towards Tersana’s game.

In the second half, Tersana’s attempts to score continued, but the goal came from Gomhoriat Shebin when their striker, Hossam Fathy, went one on one with Tersana’s goalkeeper and had a great finish that opened the score for his team.

Tersana players failed to equalize the score in the remaining minutes, while El-Mostakbal kept their lead to win their first promotion to the Egyptian League first division.
