CAIRO – 16 April 2018: Borussia Dortmund’s Belgian striker, Michy Batshuayi, had suffered an injury on Sunday during the last minutes of the game against Shalke 04. This injury could rule the striker out of the World Cup.

“I didn't think it looked like the kind of injury that he would be back from quickly; I hope, of course, that I'm mistaken,” Dortmund manager Peter Stoge told press on Monday.

Borussia Dortmund lost the derby 2-0 to Shalke and were dropped to the fourth position.

The Belgian striker, 24, joined Borussia in the winter transfer market on loan from Chelsea and established himself as the team’s starting striker, scoring nine goals in 14 appearances with the club.

Stoge added, “I can't yet say anything specific, other than the fact that he's in pain and will now be examined in more detail. Hopefully it's not as bad as it looks."

Batshuayi is a key player for Belgium’s national team, and Belgian manager Roberto Martínez hopes he will be fit before the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
