CAIRO – 15 April 2018: Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes said the UEFA Champions League semi-final between his team and Real Madrid will be a completely open duel that will be played in "two temples" of football in reference to the Santiago Bernabeú stadium and Allianz Arena.

"It's a duel of giants, two teams with a great tradition in European football, it will be played in two football temples," Heynckes said at the Bayern press conference.

"I have to say, it's a cracking tie. A gigantic fixture, in a very positive way," he said.

"I have good memories of our treble season. We played against Juventus and Barcelona at home in the first legs. I hope that's a good omen."

Heynckes was the last coach to win Champions League for Bayern Munich or in other words, a non-Spanish team; in 2013, Bayern Munich defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the final game after eliminating Barcelona from the semi-final stage with a 7-0 score on aggregate. Since then, Spanish teams reaped the title for four consecutive years. Real Madrid won three titles and Barcelona won it once.

On Cristiano Ronaldo, Heynckes said that "Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world, with Lionel Messi," he said. "He is absolutely world class. He works every day, which is commendable.”

According to L'Équipe, Heynckes added that "he has often been decisive. In games like this, the team performance is important. I hope he doesn't have his best day against us."
