CAIRO – 11 April 2018: El-Gouna returned to the Egyptian first division after achieving a 1-0 victory over Alsalam Esna on Wednesday.

Mohamed Abo el-Ela scored El-Gouna’s only goal in the game, which was enough for them to win the game and seal promotion after three years of absence.

After the victory, El-Gouna reached 70 points, five points ahead of the second-placed El-Minya, with one game remaining in the season.

El-Gouna first played in the first division in 2009 and they stayed in the top division for six consecutive seasons before relegation in 2015.

El-Gouna’s best season in the top division was in 2012 when they finished the league in the ninth position.

El-Gouna became the second team to win promotion after Haras El Hedoud.

The third team to win promotion will be decided in the last week game between Tersana and Nogoom El-Mostakbal.

Tersana leads its group with 57 points, one point ahead of El-Mostakbal.
