CAIRO – 6 April 2018: Al-Ahly were crowned Men’s African Volleyball Champions after defeating El-Gaish 3-0 in the final match at Abdulla Al Faysal Halls on Thursday night.

Al-Ahly, the title holders, achieved their 13th title in the competition that was held from March 27 to April 6.

The ‘Reds’ qualified for the final game after beating Smouha in the semi-final while El-Gaish defeated Libya’s Asswehly SC.



El-Gaish, who won the title in 2016, counted on their veteran Ahmed Salah and his teammates to achieve their second title but they were stopped by Al-Ahly’s Chokri El-Gewini and Abdel-Halim Abbo.

Al-Ahly’sPresident Mahmoud el-Khatib praised the outstanding performance of the players and the prominent behavior and commitment to the coaching staff’s instructions, as well as the high spirit shown from the beginning until they won the title in the end.

Al-Ahly widened the gap to seven titles with their nearest opponent, the Tunisian club Sfaxien, who won the tournament six times;the last being in 2013.

The Egyptian clubs amassed 19 African titles; 13 for Al-Ahly SC, five for Zamalek SC and a single title for El-Gaish.
