CAIRO – 17 March 2018: Al-Ahly succeeded to qualify to the 16th round (group stage) of the CAF Champions League, as they thrashed CF Mounana 3-1 on Saturday at Stade d'Angondje in Gabon in the second leg of the 32nd round.

Al-Ahly scored seven goals on aggregate, as they defeated the Gabonese team in the first leg 4-0 at Cairo Stadium.

Al-Ahly midfielder Mido Gaber took the lead in the seventh minute when he sent a superb shot from outside the box.

After the goal, Al-Ahly dominated the game and continued pressing Mounana’s backline to force them into making mistakes.

Walid Azzarou successfully took advantage of one of Mounana’s defense mistakes and scored the second goal in the 30th minute to make it 2-0.

Before the first half’s end, Masamba scored Mounana’s first goal through a free kick to make it 2-1.

In the second half, Al-Ahly calmed the game down and continued dominating the game.

In the 82nd minute, Al-Ahly midfielder Walid Soliman took the ball from Mounana’s defender and surpassed the goalkeeper to easily put the ball in the empty net.

Al-Ahly players will be back to Cairo on Sunday to continue their preparations for Tanta’s game on April 2.

Al-Ahly has been crowned the Egyptian League champions six weeks before the end of the season, making this the team’s 40th title in history.

Al-Ahly’s international players will travel to Switzerland with the Egyptian national team as Egypt is set to face Portugal and Greece on March 23 and 27, respectively.
