CAIRO – 16 March 2018: Manchester City will face Liverpool in the Champions League quarter-finals. The Sky Blues have avoided the most fearsome rivals of the Champions League draw, but Guardiola will meet again with his black beast, Jurgen Klopp, the coach who defeated Guardiola the most in his career.

The Reds played the way Jurgen Klopp likes to play: pressing City’s back line – a strategy whose effectiveness was proven against City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, who was defeated by the German Klopp for the fifth time in their clashes together, mostly when Klopp coached Borussia Dortmund and Guardiola coached Bayern Munich, exceeding even Mourinho, who has beat Guardiola four times.

In fact, Liverpool is the only team that has been able to defeat Manchester City in Premier League this season.

The Citizens visited Anfield Stadium on January 14, 2018 and were defeated 4-3.

Klopp's first victory over Guardiola came in the 2013/2014 season, when they were both in Germany. The German manager won the Super Cup against Pep’s Bayern. He would also do so months later in the league match between his Dortmund and the Bavarians at the Allianz Arena, with a score of 0-3 in his favor.

In the following season, Klopp returned to take the German Super Cup. It was his last victory over the Spaniard in Germany. Despite everything, Guardiola took the Bundesliga in his three seasons with Bayern and also won four times against Klopp’s Dortmund.

Klopp reacted to the Champions League draw in a beautiful way.

Two years later they met again in the Premier League. Their first match came on December 31, 2016 at Anfield, and a goal by Wijnaldum beat City.

This season, Pep responded with an impressive 5-0 victory in his first match at Ettihad Stadium, but he lost in the last game in the second stage of the league.

Beyond this season, Anfield is a very hard stadium for Manchester City. City has not won any game at Anfield since 2003 when they defeated Liverpool 2-1. Since 1992, City has played a total of 21 times in the mythical stadium. They won one game, drew in five and lost 15.

It is expected that the first leg will be held on Wednesday April 4 at Anfield Stadium and the second leg on Tuesday April 10 at Ettihad Stadium.
