CAIRO – 12 March 2018: Paris St. Germain’s (PSG) attacker Kylian Mbappe admitted on Saturday that Real Madrid proved that they are real champions, not simply good players.

Real Madrid knocked PSG out of the 2017/2018 UEFA Champions League in the 16th round as they won 5-2 on aggregate. The white team defeated PSG 3-1 at Bernabeu stadium before they assured their qualification to the next round by defeating PSG again 2-1 in Parc des Princes stadium.

"Mentally, we wanted to face the game against Madrid as best as possible," he said per Marca.

"Nobody can say that we didn't try, but this is football and although we have great players, Madrid showed us the difference between having great players and champions."

PSG invested a lot last summer as they bought Neymar for €222 million from Barcelona in a historic signing. Also they got Mbappe from Monaco in an initial loan, confirming that they have to pay €180 million next summer.

All of Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s, PSG Qatari president, heavy investment didn’t find its way as he promised achieving the UEFA Champions League’s title this season.

It seems that the Qatari businessman has to make real changes in his team, starting with the Spanish coach, Unai Emery, who was offended by Parisian fans. Mbappe defended his coach.

"It's not Unai Emery who lost, it's PSG so it's up to all of us to be whistled," he added. "We are the ones on the pitch.”

"It is important to get back on track because we are still in three competitions.”
