CAIRO – 2 March 2018: Liverpool’s German midfielder, Emre Can revealed on Thursday that his club’s target this season to end the Premier League in second place.

“I think City will be difficult to catch because they have too many points but of course we can be second," Can told Sky Sports.

Liverpool are third in the Premier League, they are two points behind second placed Manchester United and 15 points behind the leaders, Manchester City who still have a game against Arsenal on Thursday night.

Can spoke about Liverpool's upcoming game against Newcastle on Saturday, saying “Each game is like a final, we have to look from each game to each game and now on Saturday it will really be a very tough game against Newcastle.”

Liverpool have recovered from their 1-0 loss to Swansea City on January 22 by achieving 10 points out of 12. They defeated Huddersfield Town, Southampton and West Ham United and they ended their game against Tottenham Hotspurs with a 2-2 draw.

Can added “I think we have a good basis now for the end of the season. We are third in the Premier League, we are still in the Champions League and I think we are in a very good position.”

Liverpool defeated Porto 5-0 in Portugal at UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg and they will host them on Tuesday March 6 in the second leg to secure their qualification to the quarter finals.
