PSG confirm Neymar’s absence against Real Madrid

CAIRO – 1 March 2018: Paris Saint Germain announced on Thursday that their Brazilian winger, Neymar Jr Da Silva, will be ruled out of the UEFA Champions League game against Real Madrid for injury.

“According to the player, it has been decided that Neymar Jr will undergo surgery in Brazil at the end of this weeek,” PSG’s statement said.

Neymar suffered an injury during the PSG match against Marseille at the French Classico on Sunday February 26, the match ended in a 3-0 victory for PSG.

Neymar stretchered off 15 minutes before th final whistle and he failed to continue the game.



The PSG’s statement added, “After an initial treatment period of three days and following a strict medical protocol, a joint decision has been made by the medical teams of both Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazilian national team.”

PSG president feels optimistic about Neymar’s return date, he said “We could not take the risk of delaying the operation. We do not want to waste time, so we hope he will be ready for the quarter-finals of the Champions League."

Angel Di Maria is expected to replace Neymar on Tuesday, March 6, when they host Real Madrid at the UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg. The first leg that took place in Madrid ended with a 3-1 victory for Real Madrid.
