CAIRO – 28 February 2018: Zamalek board member Ismail Youssef revealed on Wednesday that the club’s priority this season is to achieve the CAF Confederation cup title.

“We want to fight for achieving the African competitions and regain our African glory through achieving the CAF Confederation cup title,” Youssef told Zamalek’s official website.

The former Zamalek midfielder has achieved four CAF Champions League titles with Zamalek in 1984, 1986, 1993 and 1996.

Zamalek failed to achieve any African title since their African Super Cup in 2003 defeating Wydad Casablanca 3-1 in Cairo.

Zamalek opens their participation at the competition against Welayta Dicha from Ethiopia on March 7 at Hawassa International Stadium in Ethiopia.

Youssef added, “We hope to start our campaign with a good result despite playing the first leg in Ethiopia.”

Zamalek fans hope to transfer their success in the domestic league to the Confederation cup, as the team has achieved six consecutive victories under their new manager, Ihab Galal.
