CAIRO – 15 February 2018: Esperance defeated Etoile du Sahel 3-2 on Thursday in the Tunisian League. Esperance won the Tunisian Derby thanks to a late goal from Haythem Jouini.

Esperance surprised their opponents with the first goal only 17 minutes from the start through their Algerian midfielder, Youssef Blaili, who received a cross from Etoile’s box to make the score 1-0.

Etoile du Sahel dominated the game after the goal and they created many chances to score, but Esperance goalkeeper Moez Ben Cherifia saved all their attempts.

Etoile du Sahel managed to equalize the score 9 minutes before the half time thanks to a goal from Esperance defender Montassar Talbi in his own team’s net.

Seven minutes later, Alkhali Bangoura added the second goal for Etoile du Sahel, who ended the first half 2-1.

Etoile du Sahel tried to secure their victory by scoring in the first minutes of the second half, while Esperance players failed to create chances to score.

The last ten minutes of the game were full of drama, as Esperance got a penalty and Taha Yassine Khenissi converted it to make the score 2-2 three minutes before the final whistle.

The game stopped for ten minutes after a feud started between Esperance fans and the stadium’s security, but the game continued after the security controlled the situation.

Everyone was expecting the game to end with a draw, but Haythem Jouini received a ball in Etoile’s box and scored Esperance’s winning goal to end the game 3-2.

Esperance tops the league with 44 points after 18 games, winning 13 games and ending five games with a draw, while Etoile du Sahel are placed second with 33 points.
