What happened at winter transfer market in Premier League

CAIRO – 1 February 2018: It was a very busy at the winter transfer market in the Premier League which witnessed big transfers in and out of the Premier League clubs. It is expected that the conducted transfers will have a substantial impact on the second half of the season.

Arsenal

Arsenal led the headlines in the transfer market as they lost five starters and signed two big names.

They swapped their Chilean winger, Alexis Sanchez with Manchester United’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan and they signed Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang while Dortmund signed Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi on a loan and Chelsea replaced him with Olivier Giroud from Arsenal.

Beside Sanchez and Giroud, Theo Walcott, Mathieu Debuchy and Francis Coquelin left Arsenal to join Everton, Saint Etienne and Valencia respectively.


Chelsea

Arsenal’s famous neighbor Chelsea added another two players to their squad besides Giroud. They have signed Ross Barkley from Everton and Emerson Palmieri from Roma.

On the other hand, Chelsea loaned Baba Rahman to Schalke and Robert Kenedy to Newcastle United.


Everton

The blue side of the city of Liverpool were active on the transfer market as they signed Besiktas striker, Cenk Tosun besides the experienced Premier League winger Walcott.

Everton also loaned Sandro Ramirez to Seville and Aaron Lennon to Burnley besides Barkley who joined Chelsea.

Manchester United

Manchester United made only one transfer this winter but it was the biggest in England when they swapped Mkhitaryan with Sanchez.

Manchester City

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola decided to shop in Spain to find a solution to his team’s defensive problems. Manchester City made another big-money transfer as they signed Atletic Bilbao French defender, Aymeric Laporte for $80 million.
Guardiola also tried to sign Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez but his club rejected all the offers by City.

Liverpool

Liverpool lost their Brazilian magician Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for $165 million and Daniel Sturridge to West Bromwich Albion but they managed to rebuild their defensive line as they signed Virgil van Dijk from Southampton.

Tottenham Hotspurs

Spurs supported their right flank with Lucas Moura from Paris Saint Germain. Spurs fans are happy with their new signing as he can participate with them in the Champions League. The player who earned only 79 minutes with his team in the first half of the season was not involved in their European list.

Tottenham also loaned Georges-Kevin Nkoudou to Burnley.

West Bromwich Albion

Egyptian fans followed West Brom’s transfers the most as the club has signed Zamalek’s Ali Gabr on a six month loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.

Ali Gabr will share the team’s defensive line with his teammate in the national team, Ahmed Hegazi.

Beside Gabr, they have signed Daniel Sturridge from Liverpool.

West Brom fans are happy with the new signings and also for keeping their captain Jonny Evans who had many offers to leave and join the league giants.


Brighton and Hove Albion

Brighton signed a six month loan with Leicester City’s striker Leonardo Ulloa who played a great role at Leicester’s 2016 campaign to win their first Premier League title.
Ulloa wore the Brighton jersey in 2014 when he joined the club from Spain’s Almeria.

Huddersfield Town

Terence Kongolo joined the club on a loan from AS Monaco and he has an immediate impact with his new club. Kongolo had a great performance on Tuesday night against Liverpool despite losing 3-0 to the Reds.

Leicester City

Keeping Riyad Mahrez inside the club was very important for the fans but the club also added Fousseni Diabate from Gazalec Ajaccio and Callum Wright from Blackburn Rovers to their squad.



Watford

Watford were behind Gerard Deulofeu’s return to the Premier League as they signed him on a loan from Barcelona.

Deulofeu had a previous experience in the Premier League with Everton.

Stoke City

Stoke City have signed two players to strengthen their squad which is struggling in the league. The club have signed Badou Ndiaye from Galatasaray for $18 million and Kostas Stafylidis from Augusburg.

Swansea City

Swansea City have reunited the Ayew brothers again as they signed Andre Ayew from West Ham United to share the team attacking line with his younger brother Jordan.

Both players played together before in France’s Marseille.

This transfer window was rich of big transfers which was unexpected and the Premier League clubs’ fans cannot wait to see their new signings shining with their team jerseys.
