CAIRO – 31 January 2018: Chelsea announced on Wednesday that French striker Olivier Giroud has joined the club from Arsenal for $22 million. Giroud signed an 18-month contract with the Blues.

“Chelsea is one of the biggest teams in the Premier League. They have won maybe the most trophies in the last six or seven years. It’s a massive club and I am proud to sign for Chelsea— I’m looking forward to playing,” Giroud told the club’s official website on Wednesday.

Giroud was a part of a great monopoly game between Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal, as Arsenal signed Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, while Dortmund signed Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi and Arsernal’s Giroud.

Giroud, 31, has been playing in England since 2012 when Arsenal signed him from Montpellier. Since then, he has established himself as a starter at Arsenal.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia was happy with the deal, saying, “Olivier is a proven talent at the top level and we are very pleased to call him a Chelsea player.”

Giroud played 253 games in his Arsenal jersey, scoring 105 goals, according to Sky Sports.
