CAIRO – 24 January 2018: After the dismissal on Monday of Catalan coach Pep Clotet as coach of Oxford United, the name of Frank Lampard has come as his possible substitute.

The former English international has spoken with the officials of Oxford United, a club in the third English category, who would have proposed the possibility of returning to the world of football, assuming the direction of the team.

Oxford stopped Clotet after a run of just four wins in the last 13 games, which has pushed him away from the playoff zone.

But Oxford's former coach was marked when he lost by a devastating 0-7 at home against the leader, Wigan, last December.

The straw that broke the camel’s back for Oxford's board of directors was another defeat at home, 1-2, against the last qualifier, Bury, last Saturday.

Lampard, who played at West Ham, Swansea, Chelsea, Manchester City and finished his career in New York City, is currently working successfully as a television analyst at Sky Sports.

But the former English international seeks to start a new career as a coach, and it seems he is not afraid to start in the lower divisions.

Already during the past summer, there were rumors that Lampard was one of the candidates for the Oxford United bench. But the club in the end showed their confidence in Clotet, who was formerly Garry Monk's second coach in both Swansea and Leeds.
