CAIRO - 19 January 2018: Bayern Munich announced on their official website that they reached an agreement the German midfielder Leon Goretzka to begin playing for them from July 2018.

Currently playing for FC Schalke 04, Goretzka’s contract expires at the end of the current season, so Bayern will pay no transfer fee for the player. The 22-year-old signed a four-year contract with the Bavarian club.

"We're very pleased Leon Goretzka, a Germany international with great potential, has decided in favor of FC Bayern despite big-name international competitors. This way Leon Goretzka remains in the Bundesliga," commented FC Bayern München AG chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Goretzka completed the obligatory medical check in Munich on Thursday before signing the contract with FC Bayern.

Bayern Munich’s coach Jupp Heynckes spoke about the signing during a press conference prior to the Werder Bremen match.

"I have spoken with Peter Hermann a lot. Leon has great character; he's an intelligent lad and is very success-driven. Aside from that, it's good that he's staying in the Bundesliga. Leon deciding to sign for Bayern is fantastic news."
