The draw was held in November and put Egypt in Group B alongside Angola, Morocco, Nigeria, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Egypt, the reigning champions, will open their participation in the tournament by playing against Morocco on Wednesday, January 17, before facing Nigeria the day after.

The Egyptian team will rest for two days before meeting Angola on Sunday, January 21. Egypt will then play their last game in the first stage against the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Monday.

The best three teams in the tournament will qualify to the 2019 Men's World Handball Championship in Denmark and Germany.
