CAIRO – 11 January 2018: European Men's Handball Championship starts on Friday in Croatia. Sixteen European nations are set to compete in Croatia to win the title.

The reigning champion, Germany, plays in Group C alongside Macedonia, Slovenia and Montenegro and will play their games in the Croatian capital, Zagreb.

The draw put the host nation, Croatia, in the group of death alongside Serbia, Iceland and the team who won the most European titles, Sweden. They will play their games in Split at the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea.

France who won the title three times plays in Group B alongside Belarus, Norway and Austria. The group will play their games in Poreč.

Spain hopes to touch the gold this time as they played four finals and lost them all. The last one was in 2016 against Germany.

Spain plays in Group D alongside Denmark, Hungary and the Czech Republic. They will play their games at Varaždin in the north of the country.

Croatia hosts the tournament between January 12 and 28.
