CAIRO – 4 January 2018: Zamalek board appointed former Zamalek player Moatamed Gamal as a caretaker manager to lead Zamalek in the Cairo Derby against Al-Ahly on Monday January 8.

Zamalek sacked the club’s Montenegrin manager, Nebojša Jovović, after losing 1-0 to El-Gaish on Wednesday night.

Gamal will lead the team alongside Nabil Mahmoud and Ayman Taher as a goalkeeping coach.

Zamalek contacted Enppi manager, Ehab Galal to succeed Nebojša as the team’s coach but Enppi board announced on Thursday that Galal will stay at the club.

Zamalek’s president, Mortada Mansour met the players ahead of their training session on Thursday to support them before the derby.

Zamalek players hope to reconcile their fans as the team is currently suffering in the league. Zamalek are nine points behind the leaders, Ismaily. Zamalek played 16 games in the league under Nebojša’s management, and they won only eight games. They also lost four games and ended another four games with a draw.
