CAIRO – 1 January 2018: Stoke City manager Mark Hughes expects bad news from Stoke City’s board after the team’s 0-1 loss at home to Newcastle on Monday. Hughes is under pressure of being sacked, as the club suffered their 12th loss this season.

Hughes lost six points in three days, as the club lost 5-0 to Chelsea on Saturday before losing again on Monday to Newcastle.

Hughes played the game against Chelsea with the reserves, as he decided to sacrifice the three points against Chelsea to guarantee the points against Newcastle, but a late goal from Ayoze Perez disturbed his plans.

Stoke City fans have found success under Hughes’ command.

Hughes was appointed the club’s manager in 2013 and he led the team to finish the league in the 9th position for three consecutive seasons, but the team started to suffer since the last season, when they avoided relegation in the last few weeks to end in the 13th position.

Stoke City picked up only 20 points this season and are only two points from relegation.

Stoke City’s board would choose to end Hughes’ era with the club and start a new era with another coach. They hope to find success after sacking their manager, like Crystal Palace and Everton, who suffered at the beginning of the season but improved their results after sacking their managers.
