CAIRO – 28 December 2017 : Atletico Madrid hopes to convince their French striker, Antoine Griezmann, to stay with the club. The club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Angel Gil Marin hopes to see Griezmann and Diego Costa together in the team’s attacking line.

“We have struggled to join together these two players (Griezmann and Diego Costa) and I think it will be very good for the two to compete together. It will be very good for Atletico and it will be good for the coaches,” Gil Martin told Spanish Channel Mega on Thursday.

Diego Costa joined Atletico Madrid last summer from Chelsea, but he did not play any game with the club as iy was banned from new signings until this January.

Speaking about Griezmann’s situation with the club, Gil Martin said, “Atletico do not want to sell him, not now, nor in the summer. For us he is a very important player who has grown a lot with us and we have grown with him. Our intention is to continue growing together. I would love for him to continue."

Griezmann has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid’s rivals, Barcelona, next summer.

Atletico Madrid are placing second in the Spanish League with 36 points. They are 9 points behind the leaders, Barcelona.
