CAIRO – 28 December 2017: Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, asked Liverpool fans to forget the £75m transfer fee Liverpool paid to sign Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton and focus on the quality he will add to the squad.

“We don't make the prices, the market does. Liverpool supporters should forget about the price. We only talk about the player and what he can bring in; the quality, the mentality, the character. That is why we are really happy about it," Liverpool told Skysports on Thursday.

Van Dijk, 26, was linked to signing with Liverpool last summer, but he finally joined them on December 27 for £75 million. The deal makes him the most expensive defender in the history.

Klopp spoke about what Van Dijk needs to establish himself as a regular defender at Liverpool. He said, “he needs to adapt to our style of play. It's a completely different game, but we are 100 percent sure he will do it."

Van Dijk made 12 appearances for Southampton this season, although he suffered from a knee injury that forced him to miss many games. Van Dijk is expected to be a great addition to Liverpool’s defense.
