CAIRO – 28 December 2017: Manchester City`s coach Pep Guardiola showed again his devotion to Lionel Messi after his last game with Manchester City.

Manchester City defeated Newcastle United 1-0 in round 20 of the English Premier League thanks to City`s midfielder Raheem Sterling`s goal.

The Catalan coach was asked if he sees his team among the favorites to win the Champions League, and in his response he remembered the Argentinean star.

"Who does (Lionel) Messi play for?" was Guardiola's response.

"Barcelona," came the reporter's answer.

"So they are the favorites," shrugged the manager.

The Catalan coach continues to see Barcelona as a great candidate for winning the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Manchester City is moving steadily towards the Premier League title after beating Newcastle in the last game. They have already 18 consecutive victories, which generated a gap of 15 points to the second placed Manchester United of Jose Mourinho.

"We did absolutely everything but it is difficult to play when the other team doesn't want to play," sighed Guardiola in what seemed an accurate description of the one-sided game.
