CAIRO – 17 December 2017: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger expressed his admiration for his German midfielder Mesut Özil, who led Arsenal to victory by scoring the only goal in the game against Newcastle on Saturday in the Premier League.

“Usually he is a guy who, 99 percent of the time in this position, controls the ball and gives it to somebody else,” Wenger told press after the game.

Özil ended Arsenal’s poor results after he scored a superb goal against Newcastle minutes before half time.

Wenger spoke about the goal, saying, “It's important for him that he takes the risk to do what he did. So I'm pleased he took the gamble to finish and I'm happy as well that he scored a very important goal."

Özil’s contract with Arsenal ends this summer and Arsenal fans are worried about losing their midfielder.

Arsenal is in fourth place with 33 points, 19 points behind leader Manchester City.
