CAIRO – 10 December 2017: Chelsea manager Antonio Conte does not see his team as a contender for the Premier League title after losing 1-0 to West Ham on Saturday.

“To talk about the title race after a defeat I think is a bit strange, especially as this is the fourth defeat this season in 16 games. When you have this task, it is impossible to think that you are in the title race,” Conte told press after the defeat.

Chelsea is in the third position in the Premier League table with 11 points behind the leaders, Manchester City. They have a game on Sunday against Manchester United.

Conte explained the reasons behind the loss, saying, “We lost the game against West Ham; we started badly and conceded this goal, and it was difficult to come back.”

Conte added, “Many players were tired. It is normal when you play in a few days. We started our pre-season with the same players; a lot are always playing, and for sure you have to pay something for this."
