CAIRO – 24 November 2017: Barcelona’s Lionel Messi received his fourth Golden Boot recognizing him as Europe’s top scorer for the 2016-2017 season.

During the ceremony, the Argentinean received the trophy from his teammate and friend Luis Suárez, winner of the award for the 2013-2014 and 2015-2016 seasons.

Messi finished the last season with 37 unparalleled goals in all competitions, followed by Bas Dost (Sporting Lisbon) and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund), both with 31 and Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) with 30. The Uruguayan Luis Suarez closed the top-five with 29 goals to his name.

This is the fourth Golden Boot awarded to the FC Barcelona player, having previously won it in the 2009/10, 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons.

Messi spoke to the press after receiving the accolade: "I have kept growing off the field and on it. I am improving and adding things to my game, every day I enjoy being a footballer more," stated FC Barcalona’s Twitter account.
