CAIRO –20 November 2017: Barcelona has expressed interest in Arsenal's Mesut Özil to move to Catalonia in January, according to a report in the Daily Mail newspaper.

Barca is keen to strengthen their midfield options and sees Özil as an ideal choice.

Özil's contract with Arsenal expires at the end of the season and the player does not wish to renew his contract with the English club.

The Sun newspaper said earlier that Atletico Madrid contacted Özil to sign him.
The Mirror newspaper reported that Özil told his teammates at Arsenal that he will go to Manchester United.

The 29-year-old joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013 for €47million ($55 million).

Previously, Özil made a bid in a request to change his number in Arsenal and renew his contract with the club, according to The Sun.

Özil never wore number 10 during his career with clubs, except in his last three years with Real Madrid. Özil wore number 17 with Shalke for two years, number 11 with Werden Bremen for four years and number 23 during his first year with Real Madrid.
