Four Egyptians at Hong Kong Open finals

CAIRO – 18 November 2017: Egypt is guaranteed the men`s and women`s titles for the Hong Kong Squash Open, one of the grand tournaments this season, as Mohamed El-Shorbagy and Ali Farag qualified for the final match of the men’s tournament, while Raneem El Welily and Nour El Sherbini qualified for the women’s final.

Mohamed El-Shorbagy (ranked third in the world) defeated his Egyptian brother, Marwan El-Shorbagy, in the semi-final 3-0 (13/11-11/5-12/10) to qualify for the sixth consecutive final in every grand torunament, while Ali Farag (ranked fourth in the world) defeated his Egyptian teammate Karim Abdel Gawad 3-0 (11/8-11/9-11/6) to qualify for the final for the first time in this tournament.

Meanwhile, Nour El-Sherbini (ranked first in the world) succeeded to qualify to the final for the first time in her career in this tournament after she defeated Laura Massaro from England 3-2 (11/7-5/11-5/11-11/8-11/3).

Raneem El-Welily (ranked second in the world) defeated Camille Serme from France 3-2 (5/11-11/6-11/6-6/11-11/6) in the semi-final to qualify to her third final after, she placed second in both the 2011 and 2013 tournaments.

Shorbagy is the only Egyptian among the four players who achieved the title, having won in both the 2014 and 2015 tournaments.

Hong Kong hosts the tournament from November 14-19.
