Four Egyptians at Hong Kong Open semi-finals

CAIRO – 17 November 2017 : Mohamed El Shorbagy defeated his Egyptian teammate, Mohamed Abouelghar, 3-1 in the Hong Kong Open quarter-finals, qualifying to the semi finals. Shorbagy accompanied his brother, Marwan El Shorbagy, who defeated Gregory Gaultier 3-1.

The Shorbagy brothers will meet each other on Saturday in the semi-finals to decide who will represent their house in the final. Mohamed El Shorbagy ranks third in the world, while Marwan ranks fifth.

In the other semi-final, Karim Abdel Gawad challenges his Egyptian teammate, Ali Farag, for a spot in the final.

Abdel Gawad defeated his Egyptian teammate, Tarek Momen, 3-1, while Farag defeated his English opponent, Declan James, with the same result.

Abdel Gawad ranks second in the world, while Farag ranks fourth.

In the women’s competition, Raneem El Welily will play against Camille Serme from France in the semi-final, while Nour El Sherbini will face Laura Massaro from England in the other semi-final.

Hong Kong hosts the tournament from November 14-19.
