CAIRO – 4 November 2017: Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Macey achieved his dream on Thursday when he earned his first participation with Arsenal in Europe against Serbia’s Red Star Belgrade in the Europe League.

“Obviously that’s the aim for all the young lads here in the academy. That’s the dream when you join Arsenal as a kid, to go on and be a regular, and it’s just part of the stepping stones, but there’s a lot more hard work and I’ve got a lot more to do to make the next step,” Macey told Arsenal’s official website.

Macey earned his official debut with Arsenal in the Carabao Cup when Arsenal defeated Norwich City 2-1 on Tuesday October 24.

Macey, 23, joined Arsenal in 2014 from Bristol Rovers, and he went on long-term loans to Accrington Stanley and Luton Town.

Macey added, “It was obviously a big occasion for me. To play in Europe is a big step in my career, but the boys made it easy in front of me. They defended well and it was a good test, because they’re a good side, but it’s about building on that now.”

Macey is Arsenal’s third choice in the goalkeeper position after veterans Peter Cech and David Ospina.
