CAIRO – 29 October 2017: Zamalek’s handball team was crowned as Africa’s champion for the 10th time after defeating Esperance sportive du Tunis in the final 31/29.

Zamalek qualified for the final after they defeated Al-Ahly in the African Champions League semi-final with a 26-21 score.

This is the second time in a row for an Egyptian team to beat a Tunisian one in the final. Al-Ahly also defeated the African club last year to win their fifth title.

The match was very exciting, as Esperance ended the first half ahead of Zamalek with four goals. Zamalek pulled back in the second half and ended the full time 25-25, and then Zamalek decided to come back in the extra time.

Zamalek handball team is proud of their record. They achieved the African title nine times previously: 1979, 1980, 1981, 1986, 1991, 2001, 2002, 2011 and 2015.
