CAIRO – 28 October 2017: Al Ahly plays their 11th CAF Champions League final against Wydad Casablanca on Saturday night at Borg El Arab Stadium, Ahly won eight Champions League titles and lost only two.

Ahly started their participation in the competition in 1976 but they first qualified to the final in 1982 against Ghana's Asante Kotoko S.C.

Ahly won the first leg in Cairo 3-0 and secured a 1-1 draw in Ghana to win their first title in the competition.

Asante Kotoko took their revenge in 1983 when they defeated Ahly in the final; Kotoko returned from Cairo with a goalless draw and won the second leg 1-0 in Ghana.

Ahly played their third final in 1987 against Sudanese club Al Hilal. The first leg in Sudan ended with a 0-0 draw and Al Ahly managed to win the second leg in Cairo 2-0 to win their second title.

Ahly waited 14 years to qualify to the final again. In 2001 Al Ahly met South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns F.C.

Ahly returned from South Africa with a 1-1 draw and won the second leg in Cairo 3-0 thanks to Khaled Mohamed, known as Khaled Bebo’s hatrick.

Ahly qualified to the final four times in a row from 2005 to 2008. Ahly won 2005, 2007 and 2008 against Etoile Du Sahel, CS Sfaxien and Coton Sport respectively. They lost the 2007 title to Etoile Du Sahel.

Ahly won the title two times in a row in 2012 and 2013 against Espérance from Tunisia and Orlando Pirates from South Africa respectively.

Ahly holds the record for winning the title eight times and Ahly fans hope to win their ninth title and qualify to the FIFA Club World Cup.
